TEHRAN (defapress) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres talked about the crisis in Yemen and ways to maintain a recent ceasefire in the war-hit country.

In their second telephone conversation in 24 hours, Zarif and the UN secretary-general held talks on Sunday evening.
Guterres gave a report on the United Nations’ efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Yemen, and the top Iranian diplomat expressed support for the UN secretary-general's efforts to establish a ceasefire in the Arab country.
Zarif also reiterated that the Yemeni crisis has no military solution, describing the establishment of a lasting ceasefire as a prelude to the launch of political process to resolve the crisis in the Arab country.
The Iranian foreign minister further provided a report on Tehran’s diplomatic efforts to resolve the political crisis in Afghanistan and advance the peace process in Iran’s neighboring country.
Zarif also briefed Guterres on his recent telephone conversations with Afghan authorities, including Mohammed Ashraf Ghani, Abdullah Abdullah and Hanif Atmar.
Earlier on Sunday, Zarif and the caretaker of the Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan discussed the developments in Afghanistan and efforts for establishing peace and stability in the country.
