TEHRAN (defapress) – The commander of Iraq’s Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, an offshoot of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), hailed the fall of Daesh (ISIL) in Iraq and Syria, saying that the terror group aimed to drive a wedge between Shiites and Sunnis.

Iraqi Commander Hails Victory over Daesh in Syria, Iraq"We managed to clear the remnants of Daesh of our country. There were global plots behind (creation of) Daesh,” Sheikh Qais al-Khazali said on Wednesday during an international conference on fighting terrorism underway in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Praising the eradication of the terrorist group in Syria and Iraq by the Resistance Front, the Iraqi commander said Daesh had been tasked with creating division between Shiites and Sunnis in the region.

Sheikh al-Khazali concluded that Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (also known as Hashd al-Shaabi) belong not only to the Shiites in the country but also followers of Sunni Islam.

In a message to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Quds Force Major General Soleimani declared that the notorious group’s rule has come to an end with the accomplishment of a mission to liberate Syria’s eastern city of Al-Bukamal, near the Iraqi border.

Speaking on behalf of all commanders and forces fighting against terrorism, thousands of Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Lebanese, Afghan, and Pakistani martyrs and those handicapped in defending the life and dignity of Muslims and their sanctities, the top general congratulated Ayatollah Khamenei, the Iranian nation, the people of Iraq and Syria, and all Muslims on the fall of Daesh.
