TEHRAN (defapress) – Iranian Deputy FM Abbas Araghchi held talks with Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock on Iran’s leading efforts to combat drug trafficking and terrorism as two major threats to the world.

The meeting was held on Monday on the sidelines of
Interpol’s Project Kalkan meeting on combating terrorism hosted by Tehran on
10-11 July, 2017.
During the meeting, Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock
noted the close cooperation with Iran on combating terrorism and drug
trafficking, highlighting the significant role of the Islamic Republic in
fighting the two international crimes.
For his part, Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Deputy Foreign
Minister for Legal and International Affairs, expressed satisfaction over the
close cooperation between Iranian police and Interpol, voicing Foreign
Ministry’s readiness to help develop such cooperation between the two sides.
Araghchi underscored Iran’s leading efforts in combating
terrorism and drug trafficking, saying that these two major issues not only are
a threat to Iran, but the whole region and all countries across the world.
He called for international cooperation and more
concentrated efforts from Interpol to combat these two major threats.
The Iranian diplomat further noted the politicizing of a number
of Iran-related cases such as red notices on some Iranian officials, saying the
lack of resolution on this case was due to implicit and explicit interventions
with certain political objectives and interests.
Araghchi also stressed the good will on the Iranian side and
the preparedness for bilateral cooperation with Interpol and the Argentinean
side, and underscored the constructive role of the International Police
Organization for settling various issues.
Iran is host to Interpol’s Project Kalkan meeting on 10-11
July in which representatives from 29 Interpol member countries will review
cooperation and explore ways of enhancing technical assistance in combating
